Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
