Why the Democratic Party is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

The action from the DNC to withhold the release of its internal autopsy report on the 2024 election appears shocking but to be expected. Averse to hard truths, the DNC often functions more like a publicity machine than a political organization focused on building grassroots capacities for winning elections.

A Climate of Conformity

Unwilling to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the DNC has continued under the influence of the previous administration throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy would have indicated that the leadership truly desire to promote honest conversation regarding the errors that paved the way for the former president to win re-election. However, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there is little to be learned following the tragic debacle of 2024.

Our guiding principle: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it becomes a sideline issue from our fundamental goal," a rationale which was presented to justify concealing the document.

Critical Problems an Analysis Would Have Explored

Any valuable post-mortem of substance would not dodge certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Losing among millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate during the previous election proved pivotal in the close 2024 election.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The stubborn insistence by the incumbent to stay in the race, coupled with a last-minute exit, is seen by some as robbing the party's base the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Failing the Working-Class Base: During a time of rising costs, the electoral effort allegedly bowing to powerful financial backers and not managing to confront the role of profit-seeking.
  • A Gaza Factor: The failure to shift a policy position concerning a major international conflict reportedly led to driving away key demographic groups, particularly with young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Youth Allegiance: Research shows a major decrease in votes for the candidate from voters aged 18-29.

A Record Shunning Scrutiny

The decision to withhold fits a longstanding habit of evading hard truths. This mirrors a situation in which the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Washington went along with a sitting president's insistence on seeking another term until a poor campaign event forced a change.

At the same time, a significant majority of the electorate had been repeatedly informing pollsters that they did not want the incumbent to be the nominee.

Financial Issues

An honest report might also investigate matters about campaign spending, including what sums flowed to high-priced advisors and media firms during a campaign that burned through an enormous amount in a short period.

The Underlying Implication

Fundamentally, the secrecy regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a submission toward party leaders who engineered an unsuccessful national race. The signal for the party's base – which includes millions of dedicated activists – is that they cannot have a right to know what the leadership have learned from an analysis compiled from feedback from all states.

A party incapable to publicly examine where it went wrong finds it difficult to escape the cycle which was so beneficial to their opponents.
